When Steve Blaber was preaching on the Parable of the Lost Treasure a couple of weeks ago (Matthew 13v44-45), he read out a famous Jim Elliott quote.
“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep, to gain what he cannot lose.”
It made me think of Newday. Newday is expensive. It takes a lot of time and effort to make it happen.
Everything that is needed to get nearly 9000 young people and leaders onto a site costs a lot of money. Which means parents and carers (and churches) have to fork out a lot of cash to get their young people there. Hundreds of people take annual leave to go and serve there.
Newday is expensive. But it is also a no-brainer in terms of return on investment. Doing what we can to get our young people to a place where they will see thousands of other teenagers worshipping God and encountering God themselves is – to put it mildly – worth the expense.
Thank you, parents and carers, for investing. Thank you, youth team, for investing. Thank you, God, for working in the hearts of our young people.
